Synopsis
In The Furnished Floor, Mr. Jennings returns to his old apartment after the death of his beloved wife, Mabel. The story opens with Jennings, a tall and thin man, stepping back into the familiar space that once held so many cherished memories. He is determined to recreate their life together, insisting that everything remain just as it was when Mabel was alive. The landlady, Mrs. Hawkins, is surprised to see him back, having expected him to move on after such a tragic loss. Jennings, however, is resolute; he wants to relive the past, to find solace in the echoes of their shared life.
