Synopsis

In the grim and fog-laden streets of 1888 London, the atmosphere is thick with fear as a series of brutal murders grips the city. The elusive killer, known only as the Avenger, has left the police baffled and the public in a state of paranoia. Amidst this backdrop of terror, we meet Ellen and Robert Bunting, a middle-aged couple struggling to make ends meet in the impoverished Whitechapel district. Their small home, a cramped tenement, is filled with the tension of their financial woes and the looming threat of the Avenger. As they sit by the fireplace, reading the latest newspaper accounts of the murders, their conversation reveals their growing anxiety about the safety of their stepdaughter, Daisy, who is currently staying with relatives. Ellen is particularly worried, fearing that the killer could strike again at any moment, and she expresses her wish to have Daisy back home, despite the dangers.
