Synopsis

In the Gunsmoke episode 'Cooter', U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon returns to Dodge City after a brief absence, only to find the town unusually quiet. His deputy, Chester, informs him of a recent murder involving a wandering cowboy and a gambler named Ben Sissel. Curious about the circumstances, Dillon learns that Sissel has been playing cards at the Long Branch Saloon, and that the killing was deemed self-defense by Pate, Sissel's hired gun. However, Kitty, a local saloon owner, reveals that the cowboy was actually aiming for Sissel, raising Dillon's suspicions about the truth behind the shooting.
