The story begins with the arrival of spring in San Francisco, a season that brings both beauty and unexpected complications into Paul’s life. As he reviews x-rays of Mrs. Harrison, he receives a call from Carol Cameron, John's wife, who insists on seeing him regarding her husband's health. Despite his reservations about skipping lunch, Paul agrees to the consultation, unaware that this decision will lead him into a tangled web of emotions and ethical dilemmas.
