The scene is set in Clover Lake, California, where Marlowe drives through a picturesque landscape that contrasts sharply with the turmoil brewing at the training camp. Babe explains that Danny is in trouble with his manager, Raleigh Lance, who has a reputation for being ruthless. Marlowe learns that Danny's career—and possibly his life—hangs in the balance as tensions escalate between him and Lance.
