Synopsis

In the Cavalcade of America episode titled A Time to Grow, the narrative begins in 1803, a crucial year marking the 150th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. Robert Livingston, the United States Minister to France, finds himself embroiled in a diplomatic crisis as the closure of New Orleans to American river traffic threatens the prosperity of the nation. President Thomas Jefferson is aware of the mounting tensions and the potential for conflict, especially as voices in Congress call for military action to reclaim the vital port. Livingston's mission is clear: secure New Orleans through negotiation rather than aggression.
