Synopsis

In The Firefly Lamp, we meet Wil Mahone, a down-to-earth construction engineer, who is visiting Richmond in April 1853. He is deeply in love with Otelia Butler, but his practical nature clashes with her romantic ideals, especially regarding the mysterious Great Dismal Swamp. Otelia is captivated by the ghost stories associated with the swamp, while Wil dismisses them as mere folklore, believing in the tangible world of engineering and construction. Their playful banter reveals the tension between their differing perspectives on life and love.
