In The Deadly Penny, Millie Parker is at a crossroads, having spent a year apart from her estranged husband, Yancey. After much contemplation, she decides to take a bold step into the world of crime, driven by her desire for wealth and a sense of lost pride. Millie knows that the decision to steal $45,000 in negotiable bonds from her employer, Mr. Poole, is fraught with danger, but the allure of financial freedom is too strong to resist. She arrives at Yancey's rundown boarding house, prepared to confront him and propose a plan that could either make them rich or land them both in jail.
