Synopsis
In the episode Ecuador from Ports of Call, the narrative begins against the backdrop of a devastating yellow fever epidemic that has plagued Ecuador for centuries. Young Dr. Esteban Castillo visits the family of his fiancée, Maria Celas, urging them to leave Gaiquil for the safety of Quito. Despite his pleas, Maria's family refuses, attributing the epidemic to divine will rather than a medical crisis. This sets the stage for the struggle between faith and science as the epidemic escalates.
