Synopsis

In the Gunsmoke episode 'How to Sell a Ranch,' U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon rides out to visit Tupp Quaver, an elderly rancher who is considering selling his property. Tupp's ranch is located a considerable distance from Dodge City, and Dillon is concerned about the old man's ability to handle the sale. When Dillon arrives, he finds Tupp in his usual disheveled state, but the old man is still sharp enough to recognize the need for help as he ages. Tupp reveals that he plans to ride to Dodge to find a buyer, and Dillon's instincts kick in, sensing that Tupp may be vulnerable to exploitation.
