Synopsis
In The Big Underground, detectives Joe Friday and Frank Smith are on the case of a series of burglaries and car thefts that have plagued Los Angeles. The story opens with Friday and Smith responding to a call from John Binyon, the owner of a used car lot, who has discovered that his office has been robbed. Upon arrival, they learn that not only has his typewriter and adding machine been stolen, but also a car from the lot. With the front door locked and no signs of forced entry, the detectives suspect that the thief may have had a key or used a lock-picking tool.
