Synopsis

In the year 1832, the little frontier outpost of Fort Crawford, located high on the Mississippi River in Prairie-Duchene, Wisconsin, becomes the setting for a touching romance. The arrival of a riverboat is a significant event, drawing a small crowd, including 18-year-old Sarah Knox Taylor and her father, Colonel Zachary Taylor, the fort's commander. As they await the boat, Sarah's excitement is palpable, especially with the arrival of a handsome young officer, Lieutenant Jefferson Davis, who is stepping into a world of military duty and personal ambition.
