Synopsis
In the Cavalcade of America episode titled No Doll Was Abigail, we are transported to the Pacific Northwest in the 1870s, where Abigail Scott Dunaway arrives in Portland, Oregon. A strong-willed woman, Abigail is determined to support her family after her husband suffers a debilitating accident. She finds herself in the office of attorney Joseph Engel, seeking legal advice about her struggles as a woman trying to make a living in a society that undervalues her contributions. Abigail learns that the law is stacked against her, as married women cannot own property or enter into contracts independently.
