Synopsis

In The Magnificent Failure, we meet Josiah White, a man ahead of his time, portrayed by Burgess Meredith. Set in the years following the American War of Independence, the story unfolds in Philadelphia, where the excitement of victory has faded into a sense of defeat. The city grapples with the challenges of establishing a functional infrastructure, particularly a reliable water system, which is hampered by outdated thinking and a lack of innovation. White, a young man with a vision, believes he has the solution to the city's problems through the use of anthracite coal, a resource that has been overlooked.
