Synopsis

In the Cavalcade of America episode As a Man Thinketh, listeners are transported to the year 1798 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, where the eminent scientist Dr. Joseph Priestley awaits his friend Thomas Cooper. The atmosphere is charged with tension as Cooper returns from Philadelphia, agitated by the news of the newly passed Sedition Act. This act, which criminalizes the publication of false or malicious writings against the government, poses a direct threat to the very foundation of free speech and democracy that Cooper holds dear.
