In Cavalcade of America, the story begins in the small town of 1838, where a young Susan B. Anthony returns home from an academy for young women. Rather than settling into the expected role of a dutiful daughter preparing for marriage, Susan is filled with ambition and a desire for change. She is confronted by her father, who embodies the traditional views of the time, insisting that women should not engage in politics or seek employment. This conflict sets the stage for Susan's journey toward activism.
