In the Whistler episode Partners in Crime, the story begins with Chris Matthews lying unconscious on a couch in his San Francisco bungalow, the air thick with the smell of escaping gas. His friends, John and Eve, rush to his aid, fearing for his life. As Chris regains consciousness, Eve expresses her deep concern over the recent accidents that have plagued him, including a near-fatal incident with his car's brakes. Chris brushes off her fears, attributing the events to mere coincidence, but Eve's intuition tells her otherwise.
