Synopsis
In The Perfect Union, the story begins with a young John Marshall, played by Robert Taylor, on the brink of a duel at William and Mary College in 1780. The duel is sparked by a heated political debate with his rival, Mr. Hickman, and is further complicated by Marshall's infatuation with Mary Ambler, a charming southern girl. As the duel approaches, Marshall's bravado shines through, but it quickly becomes apparent that his heart is as much in the fight for love as it is in the political ideals he champions.
