Synopsis
In the Cavalcade of America episode Kitchen Scientist, we are introduced to Fanny Farmer, a vibrant young woman living in Boston in 1874. Fanny enjoys the freedom of her youth, dancing and socializing with friends, but her carefree life is soon overshadowed by her mother’s insistence that she settle down. The pressure to conform to societal expectations weighs heavily on her, especially as her friends gossip about her behavior and relationships. Fanny's mother, worried about her daughter’s future, pushes her to consider marriage, igniting a conflict between Fanny's desires and her family's expectations.
