Synopsis

In Grandpa and the Statue, the story begins in a hospital overlooking New York harbor, where a young man in a wheelchair gazes out the window. He is approached by another patient, and their conversation sparks memories of the young man's grandfather, Monahan, who had a unique relationship with the Statue of Liberty. Monahan, a notoriously stingy man from Brooklyn, is approached by his neighbor, Jack Sheehan, who is eager to rally support for the pedestal fund of the statue. The young man recalls how his grandfather's skepticism and stubbornness led to humorous exchanges about the statue's worth and existence.
