Synopsis

In the Cavalcade of America episode titled Enterprise, the story begins in the winter of 1805 in Saugus, Massachusetts, where 22-year-old Frederick Tudor is hard at work on a bold new venture. Tudor is not just cutting ice from a pond; he is preparing to ship it to the tropics, a concept that seems ludicrous to many around him. Despite the ridicule from his peers and the skepticism of his friend Eliza, who warns him of the folly in his plans, Tudor remains resolute. He believes in the necessity of ice for cooling drinks and preserving food in warmer climates, a notion that has yet to be embraced by society.
